Whatcha been up to?

What have we been up too? We are losing our
first teeth!
We are also going on tree walks and field trips. This was at Heritage Village. Grant's class had a field trip last Friday and I was fortunate enough to be asked along! It was fun and very interesting! We saw a log home, made a rope, saw blacksmithes at work, and shelled corn by hand. There were animals to pet and we collected leaves for the 4th grade leaf collection.
This little goat was 3 weeks old - very cute!

Feed My Starving Children

Feed My Starving Children food packing event was so good. We packaged about 10,000 meals in the an hour. You have an assembly line where you add chicken boullion with vitamins in, dehydrated veggies, a cup of soy and a cup of rice. Then you weigh it and seal the bag. They come down with all the rice, vegs., and soy on pallets. The boxes go out on pallets too. We saw a picture of an 8 year old boy who weighed 19 pounds after being on the program that gave him a cup of food every day for 6 months, he looked like our kids and weighed 60 pounds(I think that was the weight-I'm terrible with numbers.) They work with missionaries and World Vision to get the food to places - maybe Haiti because of the hurricane that went through. They do not work with any governments - they did once and that was the one shipment that they lost :( ! It is very cool organization. Grant's class was going today to package food, so I am anxious to hear his perspective. So if you want them to come to your town, just give them a call! All their food is packaged by volunteers! It's great way for a community to come together.

Busy with food and work

Hey - I am here, I am not eating bon bons (hee, hee - Brenda ), I have been busy! I was called into sub in our preschool as the teacher's aide's dad was hospitalized last week. I scrapbooked with a friend on Thursday last week - haven't done that since forever. I cleaned and made food for the weekend on Friday and Saturday, because it was Glenn's birthday on Sunday! He invited a few guys over for Monday night football. He made ribs on the grill and I just had to make the sides. The Vikings lost but the food was great! He set up the TV in the garage and all the guys were out there which was really nice.
Monday I got called in to teach again as well as today and Tuesday, I worked at D & L Designs. I help make T-shirts and do some of the art work. I wanted to be busy but I didn't know I would be filling up my days with so much!
Tomorrow I am going to help at Feed My Starving Children. This is a community event in our town and they package food for kids and can feed a child for 17 cents a day! Our church has placed buckets all around town and in the schools. This Thursday and Friday they will be packing up to 100,000 meals. The schools are getting their kids involved, too. Grant's class will be helping package food on Friday morning. Cole even wanted to do it but his class is too young so we encouraged him to give some of his money. It was fun to help them figure out how many meals they would be buying. The website for this organization is http://www.fmsc.org/ . I will let you know how it goes in another post.

Labor Day Weekend

We went camping this weekend. We went to the campground in town and the boys had fun catching toads and frogs. They had a bucket full of frogs within the first hour we were there. We had to laugh at the kids when the frogs jumped out of the bucket. They would come up behind the frog and just as they tried to pounce on it the frog jumped to another spot. It was hilarious watching them with the frogs.
Saturday night we went to the races. Glenn's nephew races stock cars, he is a junior. This year he went up a couple classes from the Hornets he's driven since he was in 8th grade. It was a tough night for him but I guess that's racing. His first race he spun out and the second race he got a flat tire. But the boys were excited to see him race.
